Velma Hall Yarboro, 87, of 300 Garrett St. Roxboro died Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Roxboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born on February 5, 1929, she was the daughter of William Roy and Myrtle Trent Hall of Halifax, VA. The family moved to NC when she and her sister Helen were young. Mrs. Yarboro graduated from Allensville school and attended Louisburg College. She worked with the Penry's at the Finance Company and ate at Shank's Grill often. She was a homemaker until her children were teens, then she became bookkeeper at the Courier Times from which she retired. She was a member of Rock Grove Baptist Church where she served the Lord in many capacities. She enjoyed harvesting from the garden, canning and freezing. In her later years she enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, watching soaps, movies, all NCIS shows, Hawaii 5-0 and Blue Bloods. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Samuel Edward Yarboro, a niece Donna Gentry Oakley , and several in laws. Mrs. Yarboro is survived by her daughter Pamela Joyce Yarboro (Ricky Debram) of Roxboro, her son Samuel Wayne Yarboro (Tammy) of Oak Island, NC, a granddaughter Samantha Yarboro George (Tyler) of Jacksonville, NC, a grandson Joshua Edward Yarboro of Yokosuka, Japan, a great-grandson Samuel James "SJ" of Jacksonville, NC a sister, Helen Gentry (Ted) of Allensville. She is survived by in-laws Ruby (Ted) Martin of Schley, Clarious (Melvin) Blalock of Timberlake, NC, Shelby (Tink) Dixon of Hurdle Mills, NC, Hilda (Joe) Seamster of Roxboro, NC, Kay Blackard (Larry Meeler) of Timberlake, J. Ronald Long of Allensville, and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be planned at a later date. The family would like to thank caregivers at Person Memorial Emergency Department, Duke University Medical Center, Roxboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Amedisys Hospice, and Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough, NC.
