Our beautiful loving mother, Dixie Mae Brockwell Plummer, passed from this physical world into the ethereal heavens on January 31, 2017.
Born in Carrboro in 1934, Dixie was the youngest of seven children born in the depression era to Aldophus and Willie Brockwell. She married the love of her life, Paul Morris Plummer, Sr. on Christmas Eve in 1948 at the age of 14. Two years later, she gave birth to Stacy, the first of eight kids born within 16 years. A true women of valor, she gave light to life and showed amazing courage in the face of challenges. Dixie and Paul devoted their lives to their kids and enjoyed many many years of happiness with family and friends.
Dixie is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Paul Morris Plummer Sr. and her seven siblings. She is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Stacy and Ann Plummer, Carol and David Gottlieb, Miriam and Dave Apple, Paul and Phyllis Plummer, Betsi Harris and Geoff Taber, David and Barbara Plummer, Michael and Tracy Plummer, Jackie Plummer and 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many loving family and friends.
Dixie was a remarkable mother, raising her eight children with discipline and love. She opened her heart and her home to everyone and mostly spent her time in the kitchen, cooking family meals for her children and the many visitors who loved spending time in the Plummer household. Dixie's innocence and sweetness were endearing to all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2017, Pastor David Atwater officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Antioch Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM, prior to the memorial service.
