The first year Pat and Hank were married we were having Thanksgiving dinner at my house. Me cook a turkey for the Food editor of BH and G? Yikes. Pat came early and watched everything intently. She told me she had never cooked a turkey before in her life! Whew!
Knowing I was a good seamstress and that we could use the money, Pat commissioned me to sew an outfit for some occasion she had coming up. We settled on a black jumpsuit. It fit perfectly and she looked gorgeous. I have no idea if she actually ever wore it, but the thought and loving action made me love her even more.
When I divorced Hank's brother, Pat sent me a beautiful note to the effect that divorcing him did not mean she was divorcing me.
She was a generous, helpful, loving woman.
