HILLSBOROUGH - Evelyn Burton Patterson went to her heavenly home on September 3, 2011. She was born in Rowan County to William Grover and Lucy Mae Burton on May 27th, 1918.
She is survived by two nephews; Donald F. Burton Sr. (Jeannie) of Hurdle Mills, NC and David Paschke (Barbara) of Stow, MA; a niece, Celeste Deppmeier (Bernard) of Lake Forest, CA; four nephews, Donald F. Burton Jr., Douglas R. Burton, Michael A. Burton Sr. (Michelle), all of Hillsborough, ad Daniel Paschke of Stow, MA; three grand nieces, Jacklyn and Katlyn Deppmeier of Lake Forest, CA and Rebekah Paschke of Stowe, MA.
She received her Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and taught school in Orange County for 44 years. She was a member and past region director of both the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Hillsborough Garden Club, a past master of the Orange Pomona Grange, and a founder of "Earth Walk". Evelyn was appointed by Governor Martin as a member of the Hillsborough Historical Commission, and she received the "Book of Golden Deeds" awarded by the Hillsborough Exchange Club. Evelyn received several "Outstanding Citizenship and Leadership Awards" and Certificates of Achievements from Delta Kappa Gamma, Soil and Water Conservation District, American Red Cross, and Orange County Recreation & Parks Department.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at Cane Creek Baptist Church with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Sulfur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:30 PM.
