Obituary of George Alton Dodson

ALAMANCE COUNTY Mebane -George Alton Dodson, age 70, of 7503 York Loop, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at his home. He was born in Alamance County and was the son of the late George Anderson Dodson and Pearl Howard Dodson . He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby A. Dodson, one sister, Nancy Dodson Harder, and one nephew, Frank Harder. He graduated from Mebane High School, Louisburg College, and East Carolina College (University). He retired after 30 years of teaching and coaching in the former Burlington City Schools. He was a member of the Mebane United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Donna Coralee Dodson of the home; three daughters and spouses, Deanna Beckham (Joe), Danette Dodson, of Mebane; Donna Oakley Dodson (Tim), of Graham; two sons, David Oakley and Dudley Oakley both of Mebane; four grandchildren, Leann Beckham, Morgan Beckham, Dustin Dodson,, Dean Dodson, one niece, and seven nephews. Memorial services will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Mebane United Methodist Church by Pastor Bryan Faggart. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM Sunday at the Mebane United Methodist Church and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the Mebane United Methodist Church, 200 Fourth St. Mebane, NC, 27302 or The Amedisys Hospice, 1111 Huffman Mill Rd., Ste. 102 Burlington , NC 27215. Walker's Funeral Home of Mebane, 304 W. Center Street, Mebane, NC 27302 is assisting the Dodson family.
