Obituary of David Hamilton Baird

Mr. David Hamilton Baird, Sr., age 96 of 2016 Halls Mill Road, died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Brookshire Nursing Center. He was born in Sherman, NY on November 10, 1915 to the late William Clair Baird and Delia Baird. His family later moved to Hamburg, NY, where, at the age of 19, he opened his own gas station, one of his proudest accomplishments. After serving in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, he married Eugenia Speed Baird of Durham. They moved to Hillsborough where Mr. Baird was a farmer, mechanic, and carpenter. He never met a stranger, and consistently expressed his Christian faith through his words and deeds. Mr. Baird is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eugenia Baird, daughter, Karen Baird Daniel of Efland, and son, David Baird, Jr., of Raleigh. He was also the beloved "Papa Dave" to 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Baird was preceded in death by his son, Paul. The family will receive visitors at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough Saturday, December 31st from 6-8 PM. Graveside services will be held at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery on Sunday, January 1st at 2:00 PM.
