Obituary of Richard Wallace Kahn

HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Richard Kahn, 83, of Hillsborough died Friday, Dec. 30th, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Michigan City, ID the son of the late Wallace and Lurella Kahn. He was a graduate of Elston H.S., a veteran, and received a certificate in radiology from Chicago City College. He worked briefly as a Radiologist's Assistant before joining the Michigan City Fire Department where he became one of its 3 Assistant Chiefs. After retiring to historical Hillsborough, his wife's former home, they started an antique business which he ran while she taught school. He grew up a Midwestern Lutheran on the shores of Lake Michigan; the lake and its dunes were his playground. As a southern transplant, he attended his wife's church, First Baptist church of Hillsborough. He grew to admire and respect the church, pastor, and members. He loved life, laughter, family, friends, and golf, but his greatest love was his wife, daughter, and grandsons. He took great pride in their service for their country. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy and adored by his daughter, Leigh and 3 grandsons: Ian, Lars, and Noel Felland. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, Jan 3rd at Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Wed, Jan 4th at the First Baptist Church of Hillsborough, 201 W. King St., Hillsborough. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Salvation Army or First Baptist Church of Hillsborough.
