POWERS EFLAND - Mr. Jerry Randall Powers, 60, of 5901 Charles Dead End Road, Efland, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012. He was born on March 23, 1951 in Kanawha County, WV, son of Patty Holstein Powers of West Virginia and the late Clarence Clyde Powers. Before moving to North Carolina, Jerry was very proud to be a coal miner. At the time of his death he was a diesel mechanic with Petro in Mebane and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Everybody who knew Jerry had a story to tell about his sense of humor or his generosity. He never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back while wanting nothing in return. Nothing made Jerry any happier than spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife: Danieth Nichols Powers of the home; daughters: Mary Lane of Hillsborough, NC, Kim Bennett of Efland, NC, Jerri Faye Neighbours of Efland, NC, and Ethel Tunnell of Hubert, NC; sisters: Ellen Eisenmann of OH and Mary Chapman of VA; brothers: James Powers of W.V., Daniel Powers of OH, Bobby Powers of OH, Alfred Powers of W.V. and Timmy Powers of W.V.; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson also survives. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 with services by the Rev. John Osborne following at 7 p.m. at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, 154 Main Street, Clay, WV. The family will also receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 at Walker's Funeral Home of Mebane, 304 W. Center Street, Mebane, NC and services to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Mike Morrison. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
