Obituary of Roy W Thillberg

Roy W. Thillberg, Jr. passed away the morning of February 18 at Duke University Hospital surrounded by family. He was a pedestrian struck by an automobile in Durham, NC in evening hours of February 17th. Born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 8, 1947 and nicknamed 'Sonny', Roy graduated from Poland Seminary HS in 1965. While serving in the United States Army he was stationed in Germany and was a military policeman. After honorable discharge from the Army in 1968, Roy attended and graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in Business. Roy worked the majority of his life in the construction industry, performing restoration work as a small business owner. He resided in Charlotte, North Carolina for the majority of his adult life. He was a long time member of Morning Star Lutheran Church. Roy is survived by his two loving children, Roy and Vania Thillberg of Ashburn, Virginia and Ryan Thillberg of Richmond, Virginia. He is a grandfather of two young boys, Tristan and Vitor Thillberg of Ashburn, Virginia. He is also survived by three siblings: Mickie Nugent of Johnson City, TN; Jean Thillberg Naples of Chapel Hill, NC; and Carl Thillberg of Stuart, FL. He has many loving nephews and one niece. His interests included his love of dogs. He was a Senior Judge in the NAVHDA organization, traveling across North America judging field trials involving hunting dogs. Roy is a founding member of the Carolina's Chapter of the NAVHDA organization in 1993. He also gave of his time to charities and homeless shelters in the Charlotte area. Services are planned for Friday, February 24 at the Walker Funeral Home located at 120 West Franklin Street Chapel Hill, NC. Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM for friends and family. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made on Roy's behalf to the Kristen Rieser Scholarship Fund NAVHDA Central Office P.O. Box 520 Arlington Heights, Il 60006-0520
