Obituary of Samuel Ashley Latta

Orange County Hillsborough - Mr. Sam A. Latta, passed away at Duke Hospice at the Meadowlands in Hillsborough after a short but fierce battle with lung cancer on Friday, March 16, 2012. Aged 67, born March 15,1945, he was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Jackson Latta and mother, Flora Webster Latta. Sam is survived by his wife and true partner of 45 years, Landa C. Latta, daughter, Missy L. Cecil, who he adored; husband, Scott Cecil, who he adored and respected as his own son; and grandson and best buddy, Samuel David Jackson Cecil. Other survivors include two Sisters: Mary L. "Polly" Sutherland and husband Al of Sanford, NC; Christine L. "Teeny" Marsh and husband David of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; 2 Brothers: Charles David Latta and wife Wilma of Hillsborough, NC, Phillip Andrew Latta and wife Paulette of Hemingway, SC, 2 Brothers by choice: Steve F. Cates and wife Sherrie of Creedmoor, NC, Landis A. Cannady and wife Deborah of Durham, NC; dearly loved Mother-In-Law: Peggy Sue Mangum of Hillsborough, NC; 8 Nephews and 4 Nieces. The graveside service will be in Fairfield Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 2 PM Sunday. The casket will be open 1:15-1:45 PM Sunday at the grave site before the service.
