Obituary of Robert Emidio Fernandes

Robert E. Fernandes, a resident of Mebane, North Carolina, died unexpectedly, following a high-risk surgery, on Monday evening, December 2nd, 2024, at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. His wife, sister and father were there in the hospital.
Robert was born on May 20th, 1976 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to Alex Robert Olinto Fernandes from Goa, India and the late Catherine Morrison Fernandes from Argyll, Scotland. As a young child, Robert’s family moved to Texas, where he lived until he finished high school.
Robert returned to Canada to study Naval Engineering at The University of New Brunswick and then Computer and Information Technology at the local community college. He then lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia with good friends for a few years before moving to Florida to study Radiology Technology. It was while doing his Radiology Technology clinicals that he met his future wife, Evelisse Guadalupe Fernandes. They were married in 2013 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Robert worked as a Radiology Technologist initially at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. He later joined the National Teleradiology Program within the VA Medical Center and eventually became the PACS Supervisor. He has been a very dedicated and hard-working leader and member of the VA NTP PACS program for several years now. Overall, he worked for the VA for 16 years.
Robert and his wife Evelisse enjoyed 11 wonderful years of marriage together. They had a beautiful home together in Mebane, NC. They had a loving dog named Riley. Together, they travelled to Canada, Hawaii, Portugal, Spain, Jamaica, California, Massachusetts, and Texas. They enjoyed being together at home, spending time with their dog, cooking great food together, gardening, fixing up their home and creating dreams for future travel.
In addition to his wife Evelisse Fernandes, Robert also leaves behind his father, Alex Fernandes, sister, Paulina Fernandes, her husband Thomas Whiltehill, and nieces, Iona and Carina Whitehill. He will be dearly missed by his extended family, Joe Fernandes and family in California, Antionette Myles and family in Canada, Timothy Fernandes and family in England, Rhoda Surgenor and family in England and Singapore. He will also be greatly missed by his wife’s family, Evelyn and Jose Guadalupe and Leslie and Mauricio Santamaria. He will be greatly missed by many friends and coworkers, including his best friend Adam MacMillan and close friend Doug Perry.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother Catherine Morrison Fernandes who died in April, 2023.
The family of Robert Fernandes will pay their final respects with a memorial service to be celebrated at One O’clock, Tuesday afternoon, December 10th, 2024 at the Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill, NC with pastor Jeremy Pollard officiating. He will later be given a final resting spot beside his mother, Catherine, in Pocasset, on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, close to where his sister lives.
Our most precious and dearest Robert will be forever missed by his wife, family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
May God embrace Robert, shower him with love, and keep him safe, comfortable, and eternally at peace and rest.
