Obituary of Randall K. Sather, M. D.

Randall K. Sather, M.D. died August 5th in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, his home of over 50 years. He was 79 years old.
Dr. Sather spent his formative years in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating from Emory University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia where he graduated with distinction as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Sather served as a medical officer in the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Randy and his young family moved to Chapel Hill in 1973, and he completed his residency at Duke University where he served as Chief Resident. He was a practicing radiologist in Chapel Hill for many years.
Randy was a member of the University United Methodist Church, a former member of the East Chapel Hill Rotary Club, a member of Preservation Chapel Hill as well as a past Chairman of the Chapel Hill Historic District Commission.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Gowen Sather, his son Martin Randall Sather (Lauren), his daughter Laura Sather Wainwright (Jay). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Margaret Gowen Sather, Molly Stiles Sather, Sally Snowden Wainwright, Jonathan Mayhew Wainwright, III and Lucy Long Wainwright.
A family graveside service was held in the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery on August 7th, 2024.
