HILLSBOROUGH - Lynwood Shelton Holloway, 90, died Monday, May 28, 2012. He was a
native of Orange County and attended the Orange County schools. He served in the U.S. Navy
and was a veteran of WWII. He was a carpenter and a farmer. Mr. Holloway loved his family
and his life's work. He enjoyed fellowship with other farmers at the Cedar Grove Ruritan Club
here he received Farmer of the Year Award. He especially loved watching baseball
and traveling with his wife to Florida for nearly 30 years to watch baseball spring training. He also enjoyed going to the Golden Corral and socializing with friends and staff.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Alene Crabtree Holloway; two daughters Linda H.
Norwood (Skip), Creedmoor, and Janet H. Mangum (Winston), Durham; one son, Lynn S.
Holloway (Teresa), Hillsborough; eight grandchildren Lori Nutt (Jerry), Jamey Tapp (Helen),
Robby Norwood, Cody Norwood, Douglas Mangum, Brandon Mangum (Heidi), Brad
Holloway (Ashley) and Bryan Holloway (Heather); great grandchildren Holly and Greyson Talbott, Amanda Watson, Sara Nutt, Jackson and Braxton Holloway, Hunter Mangum and
soon to be two more great grandchildren; three sisters Alice H. Delozier (Bob), Mebane,
Nancy H. Langley (Richard), Mebane, and Joyce H. Trickey, Bahama; and three brothers Bill
Holloway (Dot), Hillsborough, Elry Holloway (Peggy), Durham, and Wayne Holloway
(Peggy), Cedar Grove, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters Edith H. Wrenn and Lucy H. Lane, one brother, Craven
Holloway and his parents Vera and Shell Holloway.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, May 31, at Five Forks Baptist Church by Pastor Charles Churchill and Dr. Tommy Willis. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough.
