Obituary of Lillian Burton
Please share a memory of Lillian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lillian Scott Burton went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 20, 2024. She is survived by daughter Audra Hodges, son-in-law Scott Hodges, and grandchildren Anna, Elijah, and Monica; daughter Stacie Dusetzina, son-in-law Bret Dusetzina; and son David Burton, daughter-in-law Ashley Burton, and grandchildren Cameron, Xander, and Kenzie. She is also survived by numerous friends, extended family, and neighbors, including her beloved church family.
Lillian was born in Gretna VA in March 1953 and moved to NC in 1983. She and her family moved to Prospect Hill, NC in 1989 and have been a part of the community since that time. She and Bill spent many years lovingly restoring every inch of their home. We called her the designer and inspector and he was the builder. The only place that they felt as comfortable as their home was in the Smoky Mountains.
Lillian’s greatest loves were the Lord, Jesus, and her beloved Willy. She had a generous and loving heart. She was also fiercely independent and had low patience for self pity.
Lillian was a lifelong learner. She homeschooled her three children – one of the first people to do so in the state of NC. She was an outstanding mother and teacher. Coloring time with her reading from the Little House on the Prairie was the best class.
She was a “top contender” in jeep racing as a young woman, famously winning a trophy while seven months pregnant.
Her cheese potatoes, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, salmon cakes, Brunswick stew, and holiday meals were unbeatable. Her love for Nintendo was only rivaled by that of her kids and grandkids. She loved playing Kismet, Dominos, and Poker, whether she won or lost. For her, spending time with her friends and family was the prize.
Lillian taught her family to be independent and strong. She was kind, funny, sarcastic, and gave the best hugs of anyone around. We all miss her dearly, but she will be waiting for us in heaven.
