Obituary of Maureen Bell Olbon

Maureen Bell Olbon, 73, of Chapel Hill, NC went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 13, 2024.

 

Maureen was born on May 9, 1951, in Buffalo, NY. Her parents were the late Robert and Geraldine Bell.

 

Maureen Bell Olbon led a remarkable life dedicated to service and compassion. Her journey from Buffalo, NY to Chapel Hill, NC was filled with achievements and meaningful contributions

 

Maureen graduated from the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart High School in 1969.

 

She continued her education at Niagara University by successfully obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1973.

 

Maureen went on to attend the Nurse Corps Officer Indoctrination Course at the United States Naval Officer Training Center in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon completion of the course Maureen was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. Maureen left the Navy as an 0-3 Lieutenant.

 

Maureen spent the majority of her professional career working as a Registered Nurse in several departments at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC until her retirement.

 

Maureen's commitment to caring for others is truly commendable. Her legacy of kindness and devotion to her patients at Duke University Hospital and Navy service members will be remembered fondly.

 

For several years Maureen has been a member of the University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC. Her dedication to her beliefs not only provided her with strength and resilience during challenges but also fueled her love for life and others. It's evident that Maureen's faith played a significant role in shaping her character and relationships, leaving a lasting impact on those around her.

 

Maureen is survived by her only son Robert Benson Olbon, his wife Alili and her four grandchildren, Lainey, Rhys, Devin, and Dylan, as well as her extended family members.

 

During this time of loss, may her family find solace in the cherished memories and moments shared with Maureen, carrying on her spirit of compassion and dedication in their own lives.

 

A funeral visitation will be available at 10am on July 24th with a Memorial service for Mauren to take place immediately following at 11am at Walker’s Funeral Home located at 11680 US Hwy 15 501 N, Chapel Hill, NC 27517. (919) 942-3861
