Hal Frazier peacefully passed away, surrounded by family, after a long illness on July 11, 2024


Hal was born in Charlotte, NC on September 15, 1939. Growing up, he and his twin brother were often referred to as ‘Double Trouble’, especially on the Harding High Varsity basketball team.

He graduated from NC State with a degree in engineering, then went to medical school at Bowman Grey. He did his internship in St Louis, then to honor his Air Force commitment, served as a Colonel General Practitioner in England for three years. Finally, he completed his residency in Psychiatry at University of Rochester’s Strong Memorial.

Hal spent most of his professional life as a psychiatrist in private practice in Chapel Hill. He taught second year UNC residents by using movies to highlight different personality disorders. He won several awards for this unique teaching method.

Hal loved his family, NC State sports, big cats, old movies, bird watching and playing golf with his friends.

He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Debbie Frazier, children Thomas Frazier,
(Kelly Roberts Frazier), Elizabeth Frazier Peck, (Michael Peck) and Richard Frazier, (Anne-Marie Frazier Iselin).
Six grandchildren: Mason Peck, Maddie Peck, Owen Peck, Olive Frazier, Quinn Frazier and Lexy Frazier.
His identical twin, Jim Frazier. Nieces and nephews Jenny Frazier, ( Sean Strasburg) Heather Adams, Michael Petrillo and great nieces Sadie and Betsy Strasburg.

Hal is predeceased by his father Earl Frazier, mother Louise Frazier, sister-in-law Dianne Frazier and niece Becky Frazier.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
