Obituary of Jane Neville Hatley

Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jane Neville Hatley, 83, passed away peacefully at home on July 9, 2024 with her family by her side.  Jane was born at home on the family’s dairy farm, west of Carrboro, on January 10, 1941.  She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Estelle Neville.  Jane retired from UNC Hospitals after 30 years of dedicated service and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Growing up on the farm Jane loved the outdoors, flowers and she loved gardening and growing vegetables which she continued to do even when she married and had a family of her own.  She loved her family dearly and she loved the beach, country music, dancing and she loved animals.  Jane also loved sun tanning and spent many afternoons in her backyard with her lounge chair and radio, usually with her daughter and daughter-in-law by her side.  Jane was a big NASCAR fan.  She went to many races over the years and watched them on TV when she was no longer able to go.

Jane’s pride and joy were her grandchildren and most recently her great-grandchildren.  She loved spending time with them all.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Becky Stone (Randy), son, Steve Hatley (Cathy), and her precious grandchildren Michael Hatley (Mary Lee), Heather Hatley, Taylor Stone, Thomas Stone and her great grandchildren, Stetson Hatley, Colt Hatley and Easton Johnson as well as her brother Bryant Neville (Sandra) all of Chapel Hill.  She leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband of 39 years, Thomas W. Hatley “Tommy”, her sister, Anne N. Williams, her brother, Claude Neville, and her step-grandson, Jason Stone.

The funeral services will be conducted at Antioch Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, NC on July 15, 2024 at 2p.m. by the Rev. David Atwater.  The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church 1707 White Cross Road, Chapel Hill, NC  27516 or to a charity of your choice.  Condolences maybe expressed online at www.walkersfuneralservice.com
