Obituary of Delores Ray

Please share a memory of Delores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Delores "Sandy" Hicks-Ray departed this world to be with her Heavenly Father and his Son on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.  She transitioned peacefully while at home with the love of her life, her husband Kerry Dee Ray, and her adoring son, Kerry Dee Ray, II.  Sandy was a very strong Christian and left this world without fear, knowing exactly where she was going.

Sandy was born at Duke hospital in Durham on June 24, 1946.  Her parents were James Hicks and Woodford Kimbro-Hicks of Hillsborough, NC.  Sandy attended grade school and high school in Hillsborough, graduating from Orange High School in 1964.  She was employed with Blue Cross/Blue Shield until her retirement from there in the mid eighties.  She continued working in the medical field until her final retirement in 2017.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Kerry Dee Ray, of Hillsborough, NC; her son Kerry Dee Ray, II and his wife, Angela Ray of Apex, NC; her grand-daughter, Chloe Johnson of Rock Hill, SC; and her grand-daughter, Madison Ray of Apex, NC.  She is preceded in death by her mother and father, James and Woodford Hicks, and her son, Robert Bowling.

Sandy loved flowers and animals, especially daisies, horses and cows.  She was a true farm girl preferring barefeet and fields of flowers to city life.  She loved mowing her many acres on the farm and watching the wildlife pass through.  Sandy was one of the sweetest, most caring, loving ladies to ever walk this earth.  She never met a stranger and was always willing to lend someone a helping hand.  There are many people whose lives were made better by knowing her.

Visitation for Delores "Sandy" Hicks-Ray will be held at Walkers Funeral Home in Hillsborough, NC, on Monday, June 17th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  The funeral service will also be held at Walkers Funeral Home in Hillsborough, NC, on Tuesday, June 18th, at 11:00am followed by a graveside service at Union Grove United Methodist Church, Hillsborough, NC.  Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough is assisting the Ray family.
