Obituary of William Ernest Moore

William “Bill” Ernest Moore, 85, of Cedar Grove, NC passed away at his home on the lake surrounded by his family on June 10, 2024.

Bill was born October 17, 1938 in Randolph County, NC and raised in Alamance County.  He was the son of the late Lewis Wesley Moore and Sue Kiger Ernst.  He was preceded in death by half-brother Sam Slater.

He was a member of Clover Garden United Methodist Church.  The first half of his career was spent in Data Processing. After that he switched gears and started a construction company specializing in Asbestos and Lead Abatement.  That morphed into Environmental Consulting which he continued to enjoy until he was 81 years old. Bill and Frances lived for several years at Topsail Beach and Hampstead, NC, enjoying their love of the ocean. They enjoyed traveling and explored much of the world including all 50 states in the US, checking off bucket list items.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances Strowd Moore, sister Linda Hamill, half-sister Robin Broadstreet and husband Wesley, half-brother Mike Slater and wife Lucy, daughters Sherri Bos and husband Randy, Laurie Rose and husband Joel, son Stephen Moore and wife Gina, grandchildren Bill Walters, Nick Walters (Roxanne), Olivia Meyers, Cameron Meyers, Cody Moore, Kylie Moore and Kenzie Moore.  A special thank you to current caregivers Jean Burton and Laura Hernandez.

Funeral service and burial will be Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm with visitation following at Clover Garden United Methodist Church, 2757 Orange Chapel Clover Garden Church Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27516, with family friend, the Rev. George Roberson presiding.

Walkers Funeral Home, 204 N. Churton St., Hillsborough, NC 27278 is handling the arrangements.
