Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Henry McLendon, 87, was born in Pike County, Alabama on November 1, 1936, to Henry and Lela Justice McLendon and entered into eternal rest on April 3, 2024. He graduated from Pike County High School in 1954. He served in the Alabama Army National Guard and was a member of the Masons. He was employed by Benson Wholesale which later became Fleming Foods in Geneva, Alabama for many years, most recently as a Sales Manager in Lakeland, Florida until his health forced him into early retirement. He loved music, especially old country music and the Gaither Family. He had a small woodworking shop at home and loved making many things for family and friends. Gardening was also a favorite hobby of his and he loved camping in the Great Smoky Mountains.
He was devoted to his family and loved the Lord. He was a member of Lakes Church in Lakeland, Florida where he served in many capacities as deacon, on the Board of Trustees, and the homebound ministry. He was a member of a men’s prayer group for many years and a member of Seekers II Sunday School class.
He is survived by the love of his life, Annelle Waters McLendon, of Burlington, NC. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this August. He loved to tell the story of how they met at the school water fountain when she was fourteen and he was fifteen. Their first date was on her fifteenth birthday, and he told her often “she was the prettiest little girl he had ever seen”. He is also survived by his children, Craig (Shelley) McLendon of Hillsborough, NC, Lori (Sonny) Register of Graham, NC, and Beth Arvik (Michael Tingen) of Durham, NC.
Other survivors include his grandchildren, Carson McLendon of New York, NY, Cameron McLendon of Pensacola, FL, Amber (Daniel) Lussier of Columbia, TN, Brandy McLendon of Prattville, AL, Ethan Register of Tampa, FL, and Aidan Arvik of Lawrence, KS, along with four great grandchildren.
