I grew up going to Mars Hill, so I saw a lot of Mrs. Walker during the ‘60s and ‘70s. The softness and sincerity of her voice, which is my main childhood memory of her, made the stories she told compelling.
At her 80th birthday surprise party Vera held her hand above her head and kicked it like she was a teenager. From then on I called her high stepper. I gave her a cane with a rear view mirror. She was unique and will be missed.
