Obituary of Wilma Dickey

Please share a memory of Wilma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

At 12:01 a.m. on January 31, 2024, Wilma Oakley Dickey, age 94 of Hillsborough, NC was called to her heavenly home to be with the love of her life Clyde E. Dickey Sr.  She passed away in her home with her family by her side. Wilma was born on November 29, 1929, in Person County to her parents, Lester G.Oakley and Nola Maggie P. Oakley. She was the youngest of 8 children, all who have preceded her in death.

Clyde and Wilma were married May 29, 1948, and became the proud parents of five children. Doctors once said they would not have any children, but the Lord had a different plan. Our grandfather said he thought when the children started coming, he didn’t think they would stop. Mama took great pride in her children with her love and care. Once married she became the wife of a farmer, homemaker, and their home was a Day Care for children for approximately 40 years. She liked to do things herself, liked to stay busy, and had a mind of her own. She has been told she always had a smile on her face. She loved her church family, going out to eat and seeing her friends, shopping, being outside working in her yard and working with her flowers and we can’t forget the sweets, candy, cakes and pies. She loved family gatherings and missed her family gone before her. Even at the age of 94 rearranged the furniture in her living room without asking for assistance.

Wilma is survived by her daughters, Wanda Barnett (Randy) of Roxboro, Linda Frazier (Tommy), Kay Rogers, Claudia Frazier (Timmy) and son, Clyde Dickey, Jr. all of Hillsborough; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Barnett, Trent Frazier, Andy Rogers, Chad Dickey, Mike Davis, and Dyke Weatherington. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Dickey and Gene Deitz.

Funeral and visitation will be at Mars Hill Baptist Church, Saturday, February 3, 2024. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a service to follow in the sanctuary at 2:00 p.m. Immediately following will be the burial in the church cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Mars Hill Baptist Church, 1418 NC Hwy 57, Hillsborough, NC 27278.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Mama’s favorite doctors at Duke, LeeAnn Owens and Michael Clark for the great care given to mama over the last several years. Also, thank you so much to all Orange County EMS, fire fighters and deputies who assisted.
