Obituary of Dorothy Alice Aldrin

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Alice (Gooden) Aldrin, 89, formerly of Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012. She was the daughter of Daniel and Evelyn Gooden. She was the loving wife of the late Raymond Aldrin who preceded her in death in 2008. Dorothy was born on August 12, 1922 in Providence, Rhode Island. She worked at Federal Products and Kent County Hospital, where she made many lifelong friends. She and her husband relocated to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, shortly after retirement to be closer to family. She joined the Catholic Community of St. Thomas More, which became her spiritual home. Dorothy was a beloved wife and dedicated mother. She loved children and embraced the opportunity to share in the lives of her six grandchildren, who brought her great joy. Everyone who met her was touched by her genuine warmth and kindness. Her strength during her prolonged illness was a great inspiration to us all. She is survived by her son, John Aldrin and wife Kim Aldrin of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and daughter Deborah Vanderford and husband Joseph Vanderford of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Survivors also include sisters Betty D'Amico and Eleanor Ouimette, grandchildren Will Aldrin, James Aldrin, Dana Vanderford, Andy Vanderford, Eric Vanderford, and Wayne Vanderford, and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive visitors Thursday, June 28 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 29 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Following the service, friends are invited to visit with the family in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More Church Building Fund, 940 Carmichael Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
