Obituary of Lillian Vance Cherry

Lillian Vance Cherry, 75, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, died after a long courageous battle with cancer on November 26, 2023.

She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1948.  Her parents were Frances Craig and Robert L. Cherry.  Lillian graduated from Hannah More Academy in Reisterstown, Maryland and attended Vardell Hall in Red Springs, North Carolina, before beginning a career at the UNC Hospital System from which she retired after completing over 30 years of service.  

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Lillian Cherry Parker Moore; and is survived by her loving caregiver and husband of 24 years, John Kernion of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, her brother James Craig Cherry and nephew Copeland Craig Cherry both of Charlotte, North Carolina, and by her many loving friends.  Her favorite time of the year was springtime when flowers would bloom on the many plants she cultivated in her garden.  She incorporated her love for gardening into her glass and ceramic sculpture hobby by including images of flowers and plants in her many works of art.  She shared her craft with friends and family and even started a small business selling her popular creations at various "art in the park" venues.
