Obituary of Betty Jean Wheeler

Betty Jean Wheeler passed away peacefully at her home in Hillsborough, NC, on November 13, 2023. She was 92 years old.

Betty Jean was born February 22, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Arthur and Dorothea Peevler. She attended Marion College in Marion, Indiana where she met and married Rev. Arlon Wheeler on March 31, 1951. She served alongside husband in ministry in Michigan, Florida, and the Carolinas. She was a mother of 7, pastor’s wife, church pianist, and caretaker of children. She frequently welcomed outsiders. She was an incredible Chinese checkers player who enjoyed birds, writing, drawing, and rock collecting. She loved Jesus and faithfully followed Him. Intersessional prayer for family, friends, missions and those in need was her passion.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Sandy) Wheeler, Rebekah “Beckie” (Del) Hermann, Kenneth (Cathy) Wheeler, Daniel (Mindy) Wheeler, Ruthanne (Chad) Lynch, Jonathan (Elaine) Wheeler, Cousin Rosemary Philips, 22 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arlon; her son, Douglas; her parents, Arthur and Dorothea Peevler; her sister, Audrey Whitney, and her brothers Roger and Arthur David Peevler.

Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday November 17, 2023  at 2:30PM. Visitation prior to service at 1-2:30 PM

Burial will be at the Rosewood Cemetery in Hillsborough, NC.
