Obituary of Carol Henry-Smith, MD

Dr. Carol Ann-Marie Henry-Smith, 55 years-old of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away on September 30th, 2023 at home surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Visitation will be held at Walker’s Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin St., Chapel Hill on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at New Life Fellowship, SDA Church, 510 Sage Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 on October 15, 2023 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Dexter Richardson officiating. A reception will follow at New Life Fellowship Hall with opportunity for additional tributes. Interment will take place on Monday, October 16th, 10:00 am, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 6350 NC-86 S, Chapel Hill.

Dr. Henry-Smith was born in Kingston, Jamaica to George Henry and Beulah Harvey on September 1, 1968. She attended Vere Technical High School in Jamaica. Her post-secondary education included a Degree in Biology at Central Connecticut State University, where she worked during her studies. She then worked at the Connecticut State Labor Department for three years. Dr. Henry-Smith subsequently obtained a Medical Degree, a Family Medicine Speciality, and a Geriatrics Fellowship. She received acclamations and awards including The Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database Recognition Award.

Dr. Henry-Smith provided care to long term patients for 13 years, mostly in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, also known as the Research Triangle. She enjoyed researching, counselling and sharing health information, vigorous workouts, bicycle-riding with her family, running, cooking and watching comedy series.

Dr. Henry-Smith is survived by her husband, Dr. Sean Smith, sons Amery and Brendan, bonus daughter Yainnia, mother, sisters, brothers, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her father.
