Obituary of Terry Bruce Pickett

Terry Bruce Pickett, 62, of Danville PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2023. He was born July 8, 1961, in Burlington NC, the son of Alfred Thomas Pickett and Clara Jean Dodson Kappel, both of whom survive.
Terry graduated from Rockingham County High School in 1979.
Throughout high school and after graduating, he rodeoed from North Carolina to Arizona in bull riding.
He was employed as a Police Officer for 18 years in Payson Arizona and Cortez Colorado where he also taught the DARE program. He attended San Juan Basin Technical College. After moving back to North Carolina, he attended Alamance County Community College where he graduated as a welding instructor. In 2009, he moved to Danville PA and taught Welding at Triangle Tech from 2009 – 2021.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Renee Young Pickett of Danville PA.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he is survived by one sister, Sarah Pickett of West Hollywood CA, step-mother Dona L. Pickett and one brother-in-law, Lloyd Ellis. Also surviving are three daughters: Samantha Ostrander and her husband Brian of Bloomsburg PA; Whitney Enterline of Danville PA and Alyssa Enterline and her significant other, Jefferson Aguirre of Bradenton Florida and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by two nieces, Sydney and Raegan Ellis. He was preceded in death by one sister, Denise Ellis in 2013.
Together, with his wife, Marilyn, they shared their passion of training horses and bred Quarter Horses and Paints. He also bred and trained Australian Shepherds which his wife continues to breed and show Aussies under CinchTight Aussies. Due to declining health, he was forced to retire from herding trials and training.
Terry had a passion for nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors, finding solace in the beauty of the world around him. He enjoyed fishing and hunting dove, deer and bear. His favorite hunting ground was in Virginia.
His love for Bluegrass music was unrivaled. Whatever he did, he was passionate about it, especially teaching, and will be remembered for going above and beyond for his students in making sure they were excellent in their trade.
A Visitation Walk-Through will be held on Tuesday evening, September 26, 2023 at Visneski Funeral Home 42 West Mahoning Street Danville PA from 6:00 until 8:00 PM
A Visitation will be held on Thursday September 28, 2023 at Walker's Funeral Home in Mebane 304 W. Center Street Mebane NC 27302. from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday September 28, 2023 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Walker's Funeral Home in Mebane, and burial will follow at Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery.
