Obituary of Patricia Finnerty Weiss

Patricia Finnerty Weiss - Sept. 11, 1947 - July 2, 2012 Patricia Finnerty Weiss, 64, died Monday after a brief but brave fight with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband and two surviving sons as she passed. Trish was a member of the Chapel Hill community for nearly forty years and leaves behind many wonderful friends and family members. She earned her undergraduate degree at Boston College and received her Masters and Ph.D at the University of North Carolina. Trish devoted her career - first at UNC and later as a private consultant - to educational reform initiatives. Two weeks before she passed, Trish celebrated her 41 SWedding anniversary to her college sweetheart and the love of her life, Jim. They raised three boys in Chapel Hill, one of whom - Peter Andrew ­preceded her in death. Trish will be buried next to him. In addition to Jim, Trish is survived by one sister, two brothers, her eldest son, James (Lydia) and her youngest, John (Megan). She is also survived by three grandchildren- Rex (3), Eliza (1) and Stella (8 months). Her first grandson, Peter Benjamin, died as a baby. A funeral mass will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday July 6,2012 at St Thomas More church in Chapel Hill. The family will receive friends in the hour preceding the funeral mass. Trish will be interred at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery following the service.
