Obituary of Mary Sue Johnson

Mary Sue Johnson, age 92, of the Schley community, passed on to her heavenly home on Friday, July 7, 2023. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023 at 11:00am at New Sharon United Methodist Church, 1601 New Sharon Church Road, Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278.

Mary Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Philip Johnson; daughter, Carolyn Webster; parents, Roy and Alice Woods and two brothers, Lynn Woods and Alton Woods.

Surviving are her son, Phil Johnson; daughters, Sarah Overaker (Jerry); and Phyllis Tew (Jim), son-in-law, Richard Webster and a brother, Sam Woods (Gail). She was blessed with six grandchildren, Heath Webster (Kim), Kevin Webster, Jeremy Overaker (Martha), Erin Polt (Dustin), Coleman Tew (Marissa) and Dylan Tew; and nine great-grandchildren, Carly and Abby Webster; Olivia and Lillian Overaker, Lucas, Drew and Clara Polt and Everett and Elia Tew. Also special to her were numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mary Sue partnered with her husband for many years on their family farm and later was employed by Orange High School and Central Elementary School as an office assistant. She was a faithful member of New Sharon United Methodist Church and the Schley Grange.

The family would like to thank all those who loved and cared for her over the past year including Amedisys Hospice.
