Margaret and I first met when I transferred to the Group Membership department at Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC in 1988. I knew the minute I met her we would be lifelong friends. She and I just clicked. Throughout the years we shared many memories and even more laughs. She knew just what to say that would make me say “hmmmmm” and then I would return an even funnier response back to her. I started a “friendship luncheon with Margaret” where friends and coworkers would meet to catch up each month. Margaret would call me after each lunch surprised at who showed up to have lunch with her. She LOVED the attention, and we loved even more showering her with it. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud looking through some of my pics. One was when I bought a new Camaro and Margaret hated getting in and out of that car. The day I took this pic I believe was the first time she threatened me and insisted that I purchase a different car. LOL!!! Another pic was from one of our trips to Gimghoul Gardens in Chapel Hill. The garden was at the home of twins Bernice Wades and Barbara Stiles on Gimghoul Rd. The first time we visited the garden, Margaret had said she wanted to take me somewhere special but wanted it to be a surprise. What a special day! We spent many hours each time we visited the garden looking at all the flowers as if it was our first time. Of course, most times we were together food was involved. Whether it was lunch at Breadmens (which we both loved) or trying out new hotdog establishments. We must have dined at 50 or more restaurants that sold hotdogs! Margaret was a dear and special friend. Every time I would leave or hang up the phone, I would say “I love you” and she would say “a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”. A truly once in a lifetime friend. I miss her today and I’ll miss her always but the memories I’ll cherish forever! Rest in peace my dear friend.

I remember Dena’s Aunt Margaret being so excited for her and a group of Dena’s friends as we prepared for a trip to Spain in the mid 1970’s. She invited us to her house to enthusiastically share her insight into international travel and show her support for all of us.
