Obituary of Edwin DeMerrell Moore Sr.

Edwin DeMerrell Moore Sr., 76, of Mebane joyfully reunited with his beloved wife in Heaven on June 18, 2023 after a brief unexpected illness. He was the oldest of 11 children to be born of Jim and Peggy Moore, both deceased. Ed was a faithful member of Hillsborough Pentecostal Holiness Church for 31 years, where he previously served as an adult Sunday School teacher, Elder, choir member and special singer. He held many jobs throughout his lifetime including insurance salesman, butcher, mill worker, plumber, HVAC service technician, pest control and bus driver. Ed loved to tell stories of his past and lived his life making sure those around him were well cared for. He loved God and testified his faith to anyone he could. Ed’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.
He leaves behind his children to cherish his memory, Lynn Stone and her husband Jerry of Youngsville, Liz Parker and her husband Robert of Hillsborough, Ed Moore Jr. of the home, bonus daughter, Erica Bowden of Burlington and three grandchildren, Grayson Parker, Cayson Bowden and Lincoln Bowden. Also surviving are Ed’s 7 sisters, Ann Britt of Haw River, Diane Engel, Nancy Jones and her husband Phil, Theresa Burnette and her husband Russell, all of Burlington, Brenda Aloi and her husband Phil Ferraro of Clarksville, Maryland; Patty Carver and her husband Tommy of Prospect Hill and Jody Starling and her husband Larry of Bassett, Virginia and his uncle Rev. E.G. Moore Jr. who he considered his older brother. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins. Ed was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Moore, brothers Don and Crayson Moore and a sister, Debbie Evans.
The family will receive friends at Walker’s Funeral Home in Mebane on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm with the Funeral Service to be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Walker’s Funeral Home in Mebane at 2:00pm. The burial will follow the service in Mebane Memorial Gardens.
