Please share a memory of Tony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Tony Bryant Dail passed away peacefully at home on June 15. 2023.  He was 79 years old.  Tony was born in Carrboro on May 1, 1944 to his parents, J.B. and Hazel Dail.   He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon Casanta Dail, son Keith Dail, daughter Kimberly Wood (husband, Josh Wood), sister-in-law Linda Casanta Roberts, brother-in-law Steve Stone (wife, Debbie), sister Susan Dail,  six grandchildren: Kaitlin Dail, Jonah Wood (wife, Taylor Wood), Tanner Dail, Jackson Wood, Jake Wood, and Judson Wood and many nieces and nephews.  His first great-grandchild will arrive in December.  He was pre-deceased by his parents, brother J.R. Dail, Mother-in-law Alice Stone, Father-in-law, Cecil Stone, and Brothers-in-law Carl Stone and Tommy Roberts.

Tony graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1964.  He worked at Andrews and Riggsbee Hardware Store in Carrboro for 20 years prior to beginning work at UNC.  Tony retired from UNC in 1999 after suffering from a stroke.

Tony was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was named an Honorary Lifetime Member for the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail.  Tony also saw success on the drag strip.  He enjoyed drag racing with his late friend Jimmy Freeland, and passed his love of racing on to his family.  His favorite pastime was spending time with his Grandchildren.  He had a very special bond with all of them.

Tony’s family would like to thank several of his friends who’s continued friendship and fellowship has been very meaningful to us over the years:  Jimmy Freeland (late), Gene Lloyd, Sandy Lloyd, Geary Blackwood, and Johnny Squires.   We would also like to thank Hazelene and Robert Mebane who have become members of our family.

A memorial service will be held on June 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church located at 1707 White Cross Rd, Chapel Hill, NC.  A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail Benevolence Fund or to UNC Hospice.

Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill is assisting the family.
