I knew Dan as a student at Carolina from 1994-1998 as his work-study student. He was incredibly kind and funny. I have fond memories of sitting on the low brick walls having a smoke break and him cracking me up, it was the best part of the job.

I first met Dan more than 50 years ago at the News Reporter and we later were dorm mates at Carolina. He was a genuinely good guy and a great photographer and I’m proud to have called him a friend.

Dan was my best friend for 40 years. Starting as a professional association we quickly became friends, then brother-like. As we age we realize that there is more to ourselves than our professions or hobbies that define us. Dan reached that status as he was a wonderful person and a dedicated friend, I was blessed to know him.
Tosey, I'm so sorry for your loss. Nan and I send our deepest condolences in this darkest of hours.

Condolences, Thoughts and Prayers to the Family. Dan and I would work together on pre-event communications coverage for the Special Events. We will miss his phone calls, emails and support with the Communications. May God Bless the Family during this time and for days to come.

As a Wilmingtonian, I got to know Dan in two spheres. First, as a subscriber to the Wilmington Star News where I admired his exquisite photography for many years. Secondly, and where I really got to know Dan and his astounding range of talents was in Amateur (Ham) Radio. Dan was the first Field Day site I visited as the newly minted ARRL North Carolina Section Manager. Dan and Marisa were a one station operation at the KOA campground in New Bern. I was mesmerized by their trailer outfitted for emergency communications, but I was also impressed with their devotion to pubic service. Later when I became chairman of the communications committee for the Beach 2 Battleship iron distance (140.6 miles) triathlon, Dan and Marisa brought the trailer and provided key communications in a no cell coverage area. They did so graciously and enthusiastically. The world needs more Dans and Marisas. Thanks, Dan, for making all of our lives better with your inspiration.
