Obituary of Ronald Wade Walker

Ronald Wade Walker died at UNC Hospital in Hillsborough, NC on May 16, 2023, from complications related to pneumonia. He was 85.

Mr. Walker was born on April 21, 1938, in Hillsborough, NC to his parents Marion and Madeline Walker.  He married Peggy Spencer in 1960.  Ronald worked as a road maintenance supervisor for the Department of Transportation in Orange County for 36 years.

Mr. Walker loved working in his very large garden, helping his good friend work on his dairy farm, and going to Bojangles with his friends every morning for many years after retirement.  After Mr. Walker’s health declined, he loved sitting on his gator in the front yard and waving to everyone who would pass by.

Mr. Walker is survived by his two son’s and daughters-in-law:  Darrell and Paula Walker of Kernersville, and Barry and Tina Walker of Hurdle Mills, five grandchildren:  Morgan Walker of Newport News, VA, Taylor (Cory) Hughes of Gastonia, Spencer Walker of Cary, Makenzie Walker of Charlotte, and Garrett Walker of Kernersville, one brother:  Don Walker of Riegelwood and several nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Walker is preceded in death by his wife Peggy, his parents Marion and Madeline, and his brother’s Mitchell and Wendell.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 11am at New Sharon UMC in Hillsborough with a reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to OCIM of Hillsborough.  Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough is assisting the family.
