William Heaton Fox age 89, passed away peacefully on 05/01/2023, after an extended illness at Peak Resources of Alamance in Graham, NC. He was born on July 16, 1933, to the late Herman Harris Fox & Mildred Heaton Fox.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Sadie Loureen Van Dyke Fox, son Princeton Snead Fox, son-in-law John Dee Wagner, sister Joyce Fox Epperson and sister Minnie Sue Fox. He is survived by daughter Wintralene Angelette Fox Wagner of Mebane NC, son Charlton Slader Fox of Morehead City NC, sister Mary Jo Fox Connor of Plano Texas and sister Frances Lane Fox Huffines of Louisville Kentucky. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Bill was born and raised in Mebane NC. After High School he entered the Navy in 1952 where he served on the USS Henry Tucker Destroyer Ship based out of San Diego California. He then attended Appalachian Teacher's College (now Appalachian State University) where he earned his Batchelor of Science Degree in Education. He later attended the University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to earn his Master's Degree in Education.
Bill began his public teaching career at White Cross School in Orange County. He then taught at Mebane High School and completed his teaching career at Woodlawn Middle School in Mebane.
He was a life-long Carolina Tarheels fan and loved watching basketball and cowboy movies. He also had a love of reading which diminished in later years due to failing eyesight.
Bill requested that a family visitation and service not be held. He will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane, beside his wife. Please feel free to visit the gravesite and to leave flowers if desired.
