Obituary of Beth Sparrow Spaugh

Please share a memory of Beth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Beth Sparrow Spaugh of Chapel Hill, with family at her side, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, April 29, 2023, at her home at the age of 84. Beth was from Chapel Hill and lived there all her life. She was predeceased by her parents Leonard Joshua Sparrow and Mary Crabtree Sparrow.

On July 6, 1957, Beth married Bobby Gray Spaugh. He predeceased her a little over ten years ago. Bobby and Beth raised three boys. Gary Leonard lives in Chapel Hill, NC, with his wife Jana. They have two children: Ben of Charlotte, NC and Mary Leah of Chapel Hill, NC. Richard Allen lives in Raleigh, NC with his wife Cindy. They have one child: Tyler of Raleigh, NC. Gregory Robert lives in Sioux Falls, SD with his wife Jody. They have three children. Andrew, his wife Brookney and their two children of Watertown, SD; Ariel, her fiancé Kenny and their two children of Sioux Falls, SD; and Aaron, his wife Amie and their five children of Dell Rapids, SD.

Beth worked for both Duke and UNC for over 40 years of dedicated service. The last 30 plus years were with UNC General Administration as Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Finance. She was very involved with church at Mount Carmel Baptist Church and served several years as a deacon. Of all those accolades having been mentioned, family was one of the most important things in her life. She enjoyed 55 years of marital bliss. Beth and Bobby put their 3 boys through college. She also provided care for her mother in the later years. Beth was dedicated to what she held dear. “I am blessed,” she would remind us.

In retrospect, we were the ones to have been blessed by such a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. We are comforted by the fact she is with our Savior and her beloved husband, Bobby. She will live on in our hearts and will be missed beyond measure.

It is with sincere gratitude that we send out a special thank you to Native American Angels and their unwavering care for our mother. It was nothing short of miraculous. Gloria, Jamie, and Dee, you are truly a blessing. To Visiting Angels, we thank Delores for her care and friendship to Beth.

In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief (P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607).

Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is honored to assist the Spaugh family.
