Obituary of Julian Dmytro Van Name

Please share a memory of Julian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Julian Dmytro Van Name, "Jules", of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away in his home on February 20, 2023. He was 31 years old.

Julian was born in Verona, New Jersey, on June 10, 1991, to his parents, Adela Hanusey Van Name and Christopher Van Name. He and his family moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina when he was eight. Julian attended Carrboro High School where he played basketball and was a member of the Varsity Lacrosse Team. He graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics in 2014. Julian was also a member of the parish of Saint Thomas More Catholic Church.

Julian enjoyed the great outdoors and being one with nature. He spent many joyful summers in his youth sailing, surfing and boating by the shore at his grandparents' home in Ocean Gate, New Jersey. He enjoyed all types of sports and was a passionate New York Yankees and Giants fan. After graduating from college, Julian became an assistant coach for the Carrboro Junior Varsity Basketball Team for one season. Julian was also an avid gym goer and body builder. He loved a good workout after a long, hard day's work. He enjoyed reading as well. A good mystery or any book that explored the wonders of the universe could always be found by his bedside or in his backpack. In addition, Julian lovingly embraced his Ukrainian and Irish cultural heritage.

Julian was a devoted brother and son. He was surrounded and loved by an extended family of wonderful cousins, aunts and uncles. He was a caring, giving and loyal soul who made friends easily and could be counted on to always be there in time of need. He cherished his lifelong friendships with his beloved Chapel Hill "Bros", along with the friends he made at Rutgers and during his time living in Greensboro and Asheville. His infectious laughter and positive attitude will be missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.

Julian was an installer and salesperson for Asheville Seamless Gutters & Home Solutions, LLC, in Asheville. He loved his job and the people he worked with and enjoyed interacting with customers. In his youth, Julian was a member of the Chapel Hill YMCA Leaders Club. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and many other charitable and community organizations as well.

Julian is survived by his both his parents, Adela and Christopher Van Name of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; by his brother Keenan of New York City; and by his youngest brother, Maxsym or "Max", also of Chapel Hill.
