Obituary of Charles Franklin Guthrie

Charles Guthrie, 76, of Hillsborough, NC passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at Duke Medical Center on Saturday, January 21, 2023. His passing came following complications from a fall at his home on December 29, 2022. He was born in Alamance County on the 13th of April in 1946 to Willie Lee and Margaret Vincent Guthrie. He served in the United States Army for almost 21 years before retiring as a Staff Sergeant in March of 1985, just after the birth of his son. Charles served as a Medic and Operating room specialist for his military career, including several tours in Vietnam. He was awarded multiple awards during his time in the military to include the Vietnam Gallantry Cross and the Bronze Star. After his military service, Charles Worked for the United States Postal Service in Chapel Hill, NC until his retirement in the early 2000’s. Charles enjoyed never staying still, and constant antics on those around him. He had an infectious sense of humor and a deep devotion to his country. His retirement years were spent on his hobbies including collecting coins, flying with his son, and spending time with his daughter. He is survived by his son Charles, and Magen of Alabama; his daughter Judy of NC; and several siblings in the NC area.

A Mass to celebrate the life of Charles will be held at the chapel of Walkers Funeral Home of Hillsborough on Wednesday January 25th at 9:30am, and burial service followed in the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
