Obituary of Edward Pritchard White
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward (Ted) Pritchard White, 92, died August 3, 2012 in Chapel Hill, NC. He was born April 19, 1920 in New Rochelle, NY, the son of the late Beatrice Pritchard White and William Charles White. He grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, attending Arnold School, with summers spent in Barneveld, NY, in the foothills of the Adirondacks. He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where he managed the football team in the fall of 1940 and received a B.S. of Civil Engineering in the spring of 1941.
In dancing school in the early 1930s he met Katherine Elizabeth (Kay) Wilson, the love of his life. They married on June 27, 1942, and lived happily ever after.
With a break only for service in the Army Air Corps 1944-45, Ted worked for Alcoa for 40 years from the time of his graduation, finishing his career as Sales Manager and Manager of Licensing in the Technology Marketing Division in Pittsburgh, PA. After retirement he established KEW Associates, a management consulting firm in the field of licensing and technology management.
Ted was an active member of the Licensing Executives Society since its founding in 1965 and served as International Vice President. His experience in twenty countries and four continents led to the publication of a book, "Licensing - A Strategy for Profits" in September 1990.
Upon retirement from Alcoa, he and Kay moved to Chapel Hill, NC. In 1995 they moved to the Carolina Meadows retirement community. The last years of his life were devoted to the care of Kay as she succumbed slowly to the inexorable progress of Alzheimer's Disease. The tenderness with which he watched over her every need was inspirational to all around him.
He is survived by four children: William I. White and wife Evelyn of Elkhart, IN, Katherine W. McCullough and husband Robert of Atlanta, GA, Timothy E. White and wife Kathryn of Acton, MA, David F. White and wife Lauren of Beverly, MA; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Donald F. White of Barneveld, NY and one sister-in-law, Anne W. Baker of Lake Wales, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, at Carolina Meadows.
