Obituary of Sheila Aine Daniel Cook

Sheila Aine Daniel Cook (61) went to her heavenly home December10, 2022. She passed away at home in the Caldwell Community of Orange County after a three-year struggle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Sheila was born January 7, 1961 in San Bernardino, California to Clarence Alton Daniel and Cecelia Guerry Daniel, both who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 35 years David Cook, sons Scott and Grey Cook, daughter-in-law Breanna Cook and the most recent light in her life, her grandson Daniel. She has six brothers Timothy (Teresa), Scott, Kyle (Anne), Eric (Patricia), Joel (Lou Ellen), and Jason and is blessed with many nieces and nephews. Sheila’s family moved to Raleigh when she was five. Growing up she enjoyed playing recreation league soccer. She is a graduate of Millbrook High School, Brevard College, Meredith College, and Watts School of Nursing. Sheila was a registered nurse for 23 years in Durham and Danbury, NC before ALS took her voice away, most of those years working intensive care at Duke Regional Hospital and also a 4-year foray as a Hospice nurse. Sheila was dedicated to her patients and gave outstanding care and was well loved by her patients and their families, as well as her coworkers. Before nursing, Sheila worked in veterinary hospitals in Raleigh, Albemarle, and Durham. She loved her churches; Main Street UMC in Albemarle where she was baptized, Pleasant Green UMC in Durham, and Snowhill UMC in Danbury. Sheila enjoyed many things in life. She loved vacations with her family, especially camping. She loved her cats and dogs. Sheila loved visiting and hiking the national and state parks. She enjoyed volunteering as a Cub Scout leader, vacation bible school director, church sound room technician, Sunday School teacher, and with the Eno River Association. She was a dedicated donor of blood and platelets for the American Red Cross. There will be a celebration of her life at Pleasant Green United Methodist Church, on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11:00AM with a burial service in the church cemetery to follow. There will be a visitation with family in the church narthex beginning as 10AM. In lieu of flowers please donate in her memory to her favorite charities, Orange Congregations in Missions Food Pantry, 300 Millstone Dr, Hillsborough, NC 27278, or the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839.
