Obituary of Clarence Wayne Doby

Clarence Wayne Doby, 75, of Mebane, NC, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Duke University Medical Center as a result of a hit and run accident while checking his mail on Monday, December 5, 2022. Wayne was the husband of Gloria Jones Doby who survives.

A native of Orange County, Wayne was the son of the late Marvin Oslar Doby and the late Cora Belle Lewis Doby. He is survived by his children: Denice (Patrick) Ariztia of Lenoir, NC, Nancy (Phil) Coty of Graham, NC, Sharon (Jay) O’Dell of Graham, NC, Tammie (Lynwood) Workman of Mebane, NC, and Benny Joyce of Mebane, NC. Siblings include: Pat (Cliff) Parker of Dallas, GA and the late Janice Chappell of Mebane, NC. He also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Wayne was a member of Graham Church of God and was a generous supporter of many mission projects. He was an army veteran and avid outdoorsman, especially hunting. Wayne was passionate about landscaping particularly through his business, Buckhorn Garden Center. He never met a stranger and was loved by many.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 11:00 am at Walker’s Funeral Home located at 304 W Center Street in Mebane, NC. Burial services will follow at Mebane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 2-4 pm and other times at Wayne and Gloria’s home in Mebane, NC as well as Kimesville Road Baptist Church Life Center in Burlington, NC.
