Obituary of Robert West Preston, Jr.

Robert West Preston, Jr. died peacefully in Durham, NC November 2, 2022. Robbie did his part with the greatest generation in WWII, serving in the Army in the CBI theater. He is fondly remembered by surviving Charleston family and friends as a colorful eccentric who dosed out his wit and wisdom in a blend somehow gentle and mordant at the same time. His main occupation, after retiring from work with the U.S. Treasury Bureau and with the City of Charleston, was caring for his mother, Marguerite FitzSimons Preston, in their home on Savage St. He also "worked" at the public library, to which he bicycled daily and where he could be found reading, researching, and socializing the better part of every day. Robbie was predeceased by his sister, Anne Preston Worth, and their first cousin, Dr. George Fraser Wilson, Jr. And-oh, yes- by Albert the parrot.  Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is assisting the Preston family.
