Obituary of Susan Reinhardt

Susan ‘Sue’ Reinhardt (née Baker) of Chapel Hill, NC died on November 15, 2022 after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 65 years young.

Sue was born on March 16, 1957 in Rochester, MN. She graduated from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry in 1979. She married William ‘Bill’ Reinhardt shortly thereafter and joined him in Clearwater, FL where she obtained a master’s degree in Marine Biology from the University of South Florida in 1984. After starting a family, they moved to Chapel Hill in 1993.

Sue was a dedicated volunteer who devoted her life to numerous roles within the Red Cross, Girl Scouts, libraries, and cancer support groups. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Red Cross she was awarded the Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service in 2015 as well as the President’s Points of Light Volunteer Service Award in 2016.

Sue was an avid gardener, world traveler, and lifelong learner who enjoyed knitting, reading, cooking, skiing, and spending time with her family.

Sue is survived by Bill, her husband of 43 years; daughters Jennifer Reinhardt of Kansas City, MO and Christine Howieson of Liverpool, NY; granddaughter Hannah; and sister Gail Baker of Rochester, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents Hillier ‘Bud’ and Jane Baker and brother Hillier ‘Hill’ of Rochester, MN.
