Obituary of Naydene Ray Walker

Naydene Ray Walker passed away peacefully in N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC on October 5, 2022. She was 95.
Mrs. Walker was born in Durham, NC, in 1927 and grew up in Hillsborough, NC with her parents Edgar H. Ray and Mary E. Ray. She graduated from Hillsborough High School and married schoolmate Claude Jackson Walker, also from Hillsborough. They were married July 3, 1944 and recently celebrated their 78th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Mr. and Mrs. Walker have three children, Ray (Kate), Claudene, and Ricky (Meri); three grandsons, Lee (deceased), Alek, and Chad, and step grandson David Weber (Sara); two step great-grandsons Walker Weber and William Weber, and step great-granddaughter Elizabeth Weber.
Mrs. Walker retired from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company after 38 years.
She and her husband loved to travel. They toured all 50 states, parts of Mexico and Canada, Bermuda, the Bahamas and cruised Alaska’s Inside Passage. They spent weeks at the beaches of NC and SC, in the mountains of western NC, and boating and fishing on the Pamlico River in eastern NC.
Mrs. Walker was a founding member of the Hillsborough Seventh-day Adventist Church, and devoted to its members, growth and service.
A Funeral Service will be held at Walker’s Funeral Home Chapel, 204 N. Churton St., Hillsborough, NC on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. The burial will follow at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery, 3216 Orange Grove Rd., Hillsborough, NC 27278.“The family requests everyone wear a mask during the visitation and chapel service.”
