I have known Joann all my life. We shared many memories, laughs and tears. Our life in Greenpoint and Sunday dinners at Grandma’s house with the family were some of our happiest times. Although we lived in different states and didn’t see each other often, we did communicate by email, text and phone. We were always reminiscing about our formative years and our happy memories. Joann was always there if you needed anything or just wanted to talk. She was an extremely spiritual person and always prayed for family and friends. She was an exceptional, caring and loving person. Joann’s presence in our lives will be greatly missed but I know that she will continue to pray for all of us.
Dear Cuz, I love you and will miss you for the rest of my life but I will remember your kind heart always. When I think of you I will shed some tears and have some laughs when I remember all the good and happy times we shared together and with our family.
Rest In Peace dear Joann.

There aren't any words that can fully express the loss of my dear friend Joann. We met during our Advertising careers and became fast & fun friends. Joann was one of the kindess souls I ever knew and being her friend was like being her family. We laughed a lot and danced a lot too back then. As we matured so did our friendship. She always had a kind word or thoughtful text letting me know she was thinking of me. She loved her mom and sister and of course Pat so very much and her "boy" as she always called Riley was the love of her life too. Joann was a giver always thinking of everyone else before ever thinking of herself. Always willing to help out even if it meant going out of her way and she never complained about going the extra for so many. I feel in my heart that she's now able to relax, maybe even dance some and laugh with Pat. The world is a sadder place without Joann but I will treasure all the memories we made together and she will live on in my mind & heart forever. My deepest condolences to Susan and Mom. Much love for you, Joey.

I was saddened to hear the news about Jo. She was a great person to work with when she came to Seawell. We had a lot of laughs and a variety of conversations. She was so dedicated to her BFF Pat, her pup, her family and her church. She was thoughtful and kind and always greeted everyone with a smile. My thoughts and prayers to her family in this time of loss. I know that you and Pat are looking down and watching over all your loved ones as you talk and laugh together.

Joann Westfall was my administrative assistant at East Chapel Hill High School since August 2019. She was kind, dedicated, hard-working, reliable, and always trying to do what she could to help others. She deeply cared about everyone's well-being at school. When her colleagues needed support, she would be the person rushing to get flowers, a card, or a present to comfort them. Most did not even know she was the one behind those acts of kindness, but I know she did it with a generous and selfless heart. Ms. Westfall always talked about her beloved mother, and even brought her to school to meet me once! She also shared stories about her precious dog Riley, which she loved and took care of every single day. Joann was loved and will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to her mother and her family.

I am so deeply sorry to read this news and send my sincere condolences to you Susan; and to your mother, as well as all who knew and loved Joann. I arrived in Chapel Hill in 2014 and was very lost settling in. I volunteered at Seawell and Joann was *so* kind to me and an important part of me feeling like I'd landed in a good place. She was always so welcoming and kind everytime I signed in. We often shared our views on which Diet Coke was the best (fountain - from MacDonalds) and I watched her care so lovingly for Pat during Pat's final years. She will be deeply missed and I am indebted to her for her kindness to me. May she rest in peace. ❤

It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the passing of my childhood best friend, Joann Westfall. I am devastated. God, she and I (and her sister, Susan Westfall) would play, in Brooklyn, on Huron Street when we were little. Hopscotch, Red Light/Green Light/One Two Three, and all the other games of kids. Joann was a wonderful, giving, wholesome person. Her Mom, Dolores, whom I love dearly, was the Queen of Grilled Cheese sandwiches! Joann and I always talked about that! LOL! I hope Joann is smiling in Heaven. --gv
