Obituary of Carol Berry

Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carol Shambley Berry, age 76, of Efland, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at her home. Carol was born on December 4, 1945, and was the daughter of Elmore “Bo” Shambley and Mae McGee Shambley, who both preceded her in death.

Carol is survived by her husband, Richard C. Berry, of the home; her daughter, Joy B. Allen, and her grandson, Austin Allen, of Franklinton, NC; her son, Todd Berry, and his wife, Laura Bilbro-Berry, of Washington, NC and granddaughter, Grace Berry, of Chapel Hill, NC.

Richard and Carol’s 57-year marriage was marked by a deep devotion to each other and their children and grandchildren. Her love and adoration of her family made her an incredible wife, an amazing mother, and a phenomenal grandmother.

A graduate of Eastern Alamance High School, Carol worked in various fields before spending 30 years working at Efland-Cheeks Elementary School in a variety of roles during her employment to include being a bus driver, teaching assistant, art instructor and library assistant. Her love of children and a desire to do whatever she could do to help them was the overarching motivation behind her various positions.

Carol was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Mebane, NC for nearly 60 years and was active in the United Methodist Women and the Women’s Bible Study group there. She also thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with Vacation Bible School over the years.

Her family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to her caregivers, Linda Jones and Julie Hunt, for their kindness and care over the past year. The family also wishes to deeply thank Louise Coley and Laverne Holman, as well as friends from her church, especially Carolyn Magan, for their steadfast love and support.

Both the visitation and the service will be held at Walker’s Funeral Home in Mebane, NC. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 10th at 11 am and the service will be at noon. Burial will be at Lebanon United Methodist Church cemetery following the service.

Walker's Funeral Home of Mebane is assisting the Berry Family.
