We are very saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Amal. Our friendship with Melo goes back to early childhood as we come from the same village of Monsef, Lebanon, and then as students at the American University of Beirut where Melo and Ali met, married, and stayed side by side for over sixty years. Our friendship continued for many years when we met again in Maryland and Washington, D.C. We spent memorable times together until they moved to North Carolina. She was a close and loving friend, and a loving and dedicated mother to Sharon and Norman, whom she was so proud of. We shall miss you Melo. May your soul rest in eternal peace. With our love and heartfelt condolences to Ali, Sharon and Norman.

An Omake Cherry Blossom Tree in honor of Taitu from KAM.
Memories - Let them fill your mind, warm your heart, and lead you through. Those who touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever. The loss of a parent never has words that fit. No matter how old we are, a mother's and father's love stays in our hearts forever. It was an honor to read the loving tribute your family wrote of her life. So much wisdom from one person. Good better best will always stay with me. Don't stop until your better is best. That sums up how everyone's life should be led. The cherry blossom tree is a memory you can enjoy growing just as she did with your family. My dad has been gone now over 20 years. I am passing on to you a memory and nod to my Dad. Every time a friend or family member passed, we would pick out a tree to plant in honor of them. So you would have a 'memory tree' as my Dad called it. The memory tree as you water it and watch it grow is to remind you only of those cherished memories you have of her. Love your most frequent flier"

Aunt Melo is in my earliest memories as a child. She lived with my family while working in NYC and I can remember waiting excitedly for her to come home and play. She was pretty, smiling, had such a melodious voice, and was fun. I was sad when she moved. Rest In Peace Melo.

Melo was such an accomplished lady, yet my fondest memories of her were when we were children in Lebanon. We would pick figs near our home in El Monsef, and sell them along side the road. Melo was a much better negotiator than I was - a skill that she later would use so successfully in real estate.

Love and prayers from everyone:
"Sharon, I learned the sad news about your moms passing. E and I are so, so sorry. We’ve both been through it so we do have a sense of what you’re feeling. It’s so hard. When you were so kind to invite us to your home for those two parties, and we got to meet and talk with your Mom and Dad -that was the best! We spent more time talking with them than anyone else!; they were so engaging and so fun to talk to, and so easy to talk to! It was a real pleasure and honor to meet them and spend that time. We won’t forget that. - MK and EK"

There is little to be added to the eloquent tribute to Mrs. Amal Fekrat. The closeness and devotion of her family in support of her speaks volumes abut this gentle, gracious humanitarian, and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Such a life well lived and shared always leaves a tremendous void. My hope for this amazing family is that the warmth of so many good memories will provide comfort in the face of their sadness.

Condolences coming in from everywhere:
"In reading her obituary, the irony of her passing at this time (the weekend of the 4th of July) only emphasizes to me an important Take Home Memory:- your parents were Poster Citizens of the American Dream! It would not seem to be an overstatement that your parents flourished by immigrating to the US- thereby allowing them to use their considerable talents in a most productive way (the goal and intent of the Fathers of this Country.) Moreover, this nation allowed them the opportunity to raise a talented daughter who likewise was given that opportunity to use her talent in a most productive way for her family and our society. What a great story! I know that her presence will be missed, but I am certain her memory will forever endure. - PW and DW"

Ms. Smile is exactly how I will remember Melo. Sharon, her daughter, was one of my greatest friends during my teenage years. Melo was always around for us girls in Jr. High and High School; ever present but never invasive. As a fantastic Mom, she would always have lemonade and snacks for us on hot afternoons by the pool. Always smiling, always tolerant of our craziness, and always supportive and loving. My heart goes out to the family. Rest in peace Melo, in the arms of the Angels.

Melo was very forgiving. I remember once while she was away, I purchased a new car (a new Jeep Cherokee) without her participation in the decision making about color, style, or whether or not we needed a new car at all. I thought she would get upset about it to say the least. But she said, “oh, honey, I love this new car. It is roomy and safe.” I said to myself, well, that is another lesson Melo is teaching me— never get upset, never spoil your good times, never get angry over things trivial. Melo never got angry— never. How does a person not get angry, ever? Well, she found a way— and I learned that from her. I have not got angry at all for a long, long time, thanks to Melo who taught me and others not by preaching, but by example. I LOVE HER FOREVER AND I WILL MISS HER. BYE, MELO.

God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He wrapped His arms around you, and whispered, "Come with me." We watched you fight, and we saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Rest in peace Mom. We love you to the moon and back and are forever grateful for having you so actively involved in all of our lives. None of us would be who we are today without you. You live on in all of us. Sharon, Tom, Breanna, Bryce, and of course Goldie, Maxwell, and Mr Grinch
