James David Melton
Creedmoor – James David Melton, 94 went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 1, 2022 at the Durham VA Hospital-Heroes Way Hospice. He was born May 1, 1927 in Person County to the late David Danton Melton and late Minnie Shotwell Melton. He married Inez Harrison Melton on November 20th, 1948. They were married almost 63 years until her death in 2011.
James has been a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church since 1955. He retired from Mount Hope Finishing Company after 46 years of service. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Marine Corp.
He was a man who always put other people before himself. He was always there to help anyone in need. He loved the Lord, his family and his friends with all his heart.
He is survived by two daughters, Joan M. Moss and husband John of Elon, Diane M. Jonczak of Durham and son Gary A. Melton and wife Monte of Creedmoor, two sisters, Helen M. Sherry of Roxboro and Eva (Nellie) Melton of Oxford, two brothers-in-law, Bob Alexander and Claiborne Roberts, three step grandchildren, one step great grandson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Willie B. Melton and two sisters Margaret M. Clayton and Nancy M. Alexander.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church in Hurdle Mills, NC by his great-nephew, Rev. Joel Bradsher.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Durham VA Hospital and VA hospice for their wonderful care of James. Their kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. The family would also like to thank his wonderful neighbors, Kathy and Mike Nash and Gail and Billy Aiken.
