Miss Marilyn Tracy, 81, longtime resident of Hillsboro, Ohio and loyal friend to Diana Sunstrum, Mary Jane Beechen, Mary Root and Jan Manning passed away on February 23 at her niece’s home in Chapel Hill. A devoted elementary teacher of 43 years, Miss Tracy dedicated her life to helping others, asking for nothing in return. Compassionate and caring, teaching was her greatest purpose in life. In addition to volunteering at Samaritan Outreach, Marilyn enjoyed reading, playing bridge and doing crossword puzzles. She was a devoted aunt to Julie Spomer, Tracy Berry, Nancy Knapp and Julie Bell, great aunt to Jonathan, Christopher, Emma, Elyssa, Elayna, Griffin, Chloe, Sarah, and Will, and great great aunt to George and Henry. She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Carolyn Gougeon and loving parents, Forrest and Miriam Tracy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12 at Walker Funeral Home, 204 N. Churton Street, Hillsborough, NC 27278 at 2PM. A meal will be served in Cary, NC following the service (TBA). Interment will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery at 2PM on May 7 in Orrville, Ohio.
An avid environmentalist since her days teaching in Vermont, “Auntie Mare” will be remembered for her deep respect for nature and love of owls.
