CHAPEL HILL — Lucille passed away in Chapel Hill at NC Memorial Hospital on Thursday, September 20th following a courageous battle with cancer. She was a retired editor from the UNC School of Government. She loved writing, opera, and sitting in the UNC Rose Garden. She was born in Cheverly, Md. and was salutatorian of Madison HS in Portland, Ore. She attended the U of Oregon before finishing degrees at Wayne State and UNC-G. She lived in many places including Tokyo and traveled the Trans-Siberian Railroad in 1970. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Gerriets and Ellen Cunane; her half-sister, Elizabeth Gerriets Sipes; and her half-brother, Frederick Gerriets Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Kristin Raymond and husband, Brian of Smithville, Tenn.; her son, Eric Fidler of Sugar Mountain; her sister, Esther Gerriets of Carrboro; her grandchildren, Anna Bullard and husband, Koby of Virginia Beach, Va.; Allison and Julia Little of Smithville, Tenn.; Thomas and Brianna Raymond of Smithville, Tenn.; and Eriana Fidler of Sugar Mountain. She is also survived by special friends, Stacy Hagerty of Durham and Susan Griffith of Hillsborough. Memorials to NC Botanical Gardens would be greatly appreciated.
